Well said AIB, but wait… here’s something more you need to address
I can’t imagine today of anyone who would not know the context of this article. The AIB Knockout video was a huge hit in last couple of days. Like most of the people around, I too watched the video though I must confess I am not a very big fan of such genre of comedy. Ever since the video was posted on YouTube, numerous discussions, arguments, questions, answers followed. Love it or hate it but one could not ignore the topic and I am no different. Many people came to the support some against and I was just trying to know different perspectives on the topic. News pieces, posts on Facebook, video by another channel TVF, I followed them all and after everything, here’s something that I want the AIB team, people for and people against it to ponder over.
Despite my dislike for the genre, I am not against it, and I definitely am not one of those against sex education in India. So sorry to disappoint the people who thought this is another rant on AIB team for making the video. What I am against is making it available to a channel where you had no control over the audience you would encounter. I agree that the ticket for the show was rated adult and you took proper care in making sure only adults attend it. But were you sure of achieving the same when you uploaded it in YouTube? I know the next argument would be that YouTube has a check on age and only 18 years or older can create account and access the videos. To this lame argument I would say that if you were assuming that the age restriction on YouTube actually prevented children from watching these videos then probably you guys are not as smart as I assumed you to be.
To put things into perspective here’s a situation for you guys and then a question from my side:
Later in your life, you would get married and have children eventually. You have a desktop in your home which is password protected to keep a watch on your children and making sure that they cannot use it when you aren’t around.
My question is:
Would you still save sex videos in that computer, although being well aware that there are very good chances that your children may know the password and use the computer when you aren’t at home?
I asked the same question to my friend with whom I had a discussion on this topic (and by the way, he loved the video!!). His answer was no, he wouldn’t and I assume that would be the answer of almost everybody this question is asked to. So if you would not do it to your child, why do it to anybody else’s? For once, think beyond I, me, and myself and realize that apart from being an individual, you are also a part of the society. Being a public figure, people watch you, follow you and sometimes, imitate you. How would you react if a child who watched the video on YouTube comes and asks you the meaning of the expletive words used in that video? And mind you that child can very well be your own younger brother or sister. I don’t think you would want that.
I understand how frustrating or unacceptable it would feel to not be able to do or enjoy what you like just because you are a public figure. But probably that’s something that comes with the popularity and huge fan following that you get. Sometimes we need to think beyond our leisure or pleasure to present a good example in front of the people who look up to us as inspiration. And trust me everybody has to do it one way or the other in his or her life. Public figure or not, there will always be some people who would find an inspiration in you and try to emulate what you have done.
The final argument after all this would be then should porn be banned? How about the adult videos, movies, Sarita Bhabhis? Can we control all of it? If not, then why so much commotion just on your video? There are numerous sex videos on YouTube, why not ban all of them? To this I would say that it’s true that you cannot control everything. Even if you remove one video from the website, others will still be there. But if you cannot control it, the least you could do is not be a part of it.
Guys!! You represent the elite educated youth of India, and ‘You have a reputation to maintain’ #HarveySpecter
And to those who filed cases and FIRs opposing the video, I want to say, people please get a life and do something more productive that finding issues to create commotion on. Also how about adding some humor to your life!!
P.S. These are my personal views. I hope I did not hurt anybody’s sentiments.
